The Best Hip Hop Songs (On Spotify) Of July 2016
HNHH recently launched a Spotify playlist called FIRE EMOJI: The Hottest Hip Hop Songs Right Now. The playlist is updated on a daily basis. It lives on Spotify and thus is inherently imperfect, because not all super-hot hip hop songs have been added to Spotify. Still, the playlist is generally representative of the best new releases in hip hop.
A Complete Timeline Of Drake & Joe Budden's Beef
We've been entertained for most of Summer Sixteen by a beef between two of rap's most sensitive MCs, Drake and Joe Budden. Budden, of course, had his peak before Drake had even really established his presence the game. The two seem to, at one time or another, have been fans of each other's work, but Drake's massively-hyped album VIEWS is when things started going south between the two.
Joe Budden Details Instagram DMs Drake Recently Sent Him
The Drake and Joe Budden beef has certainly lasted longer than anyone expected it to, and it's only getting weirder as it progresses. The most recent update comes from Joe's appearance on Cari Champion's ESPN podcast, Be Honest, in which Budden paraphrased a conversation he had with Drake via Instagram DM quite recently. While he said he wouldn't be releasing screenshots of Drake's messages just yet, he was willing to divulge at least the first part of the exchange, which he says Drake initiated.
Joe Budden Went To The Home Of The OVO Troll Who Ran Up On Him
Over the past few weeks, Joe Budden seems to be in the headlines most every day, mostly due to his unorthodox beef with Drake, who has dissed Budden on one verse -- compared to Joey's four diss tracks. This past weekend, that beef led to a bizarre, hilarious, and viral incident that took place nearby Budden's residence. Two bold young Internet trolls, with allegiance to OVO, decided to show up at Budden's house and try to get some candid footage of him for social media.
Drake Follows Kid That Ran Up On Joe Budden On Instagram
In the video of Joe Budden's gripping car chase after a posse of Drake stans, one of the stans can be heard to yell back at Budden (who is in pursuit), "Follow me on Twitter, boy! Redakidprodigy!!!!" While it is unlikely that Budden has followed the instigator, another rapper has gone ahead and followed him: Drake.

Last week, Chance The Rapper, Big Sean, Future, and Mike Will Made It all found themselves victims of unauthorized leaks, and subsequently spoke out about the all-too-common occurrence in the music industry.
The Memes From Joe Budden's Car Chase Are Hilarious
A pack of young Drake fans decided it would be funny to "pull up" on Joe Budden at his house Sunday and film the encounter on social media. Budden reacted by initiating a wild car chase after the kids and, once he had caught up to them, got out and menaced them at their car while clutching a handful of rocks.
Joe Budden Chases Kids Who Run Up On His Property, Beats Their Car With Rocks
Joe Budden has released four diss tracks in response to a few Drake subliminals. Today, two kids learned not to mess with him in real life. They spotted the veteran rapper in his car about to pull out of his own driveway. They ended up getting some close-up footage of Budden on Snapchat, though they're lucky to not be in the hospital right now.
Drake Takes Shots At Joe Budden: "Fuck Them Niggas"
Drake has yet to go one show on the "Summer Sixteen" tour without addressing one of his rivals. On Wednesday in Austin, the opening night of the tour, he changed the lyrics of "Summer Sixteen" to address Tory Lanez and Tyga, both of whom have remixed "Controlla" (in various forms). “All you boys doing fake Controllas wanna be me a little?" Drizzy rapped.
French Montana Says Drake Wasn't Thinking About Joe Budden On "No Shopping"
Listeners tuned into OVO Sound Radio this weekend eagerly awaiting the premiere of French Montana's new Drake-featuring single, "No Shopping." Drake was expected to use the collab as a way to fire back at Joe Budden, who had hit him with two consecutive diss tracks. As had been the case with a snippet that French shared in May, Drake began his verse by rapping, "Pump, pump, pump it up" -- presumably a reference to the 2003 hit single that Budden is most known for. "I'm not a one-hit wonder, they know all my stuff," he went on to rap.
9 Ways Hip Hop Artists Have Reacted To Recent Violence
The fiber of the American people has been tested over the course of the last two weeks, in which four incidents of terrible violence have prompted wide-spread protests and rapidly deteriorating race relations. July 5: Alton Sterling is shot and killed at the hands of two police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana July 6: Philando Castile is shot and killed by a police officer in Falcon Heights, Minnesota July 7: Five police officers are shot and killed at a protest in Dallas. July 17: Three police officers are shot and killed in Baton Rouge, LA.

News of the collab first broke in May, when French Montana shared a brief snippet of the song, during which Drake can be heard beginning his verse by rapping, "Pump, pump it up." The line was presumed to be a shot at Joe Budden, who had recently given VIEWS a decidedly
French Montana & Drake To Drop "No Shopping" Tomorrow Night
Tomorrow, Drake and French Montana will finally release "No Shopping," the collaboration that was first previewed in May. The track will appear on French's upcoming album, MC4. Even on the very rare occasion that Drake doesn't show up in our top ten tracks of the week, his presence is still felt. In this case, he's directly responsible for three separate tracks in the top ten, whether that entails remixes or disses aimed at him.
Joe Budden Continues To Pester Drake For A Response
Joe Budden gave Drake a dose of his own medicine with two "Back To Back" diss tracks last week, but so far, Joe's efforts don't seem to have stung Drizzy the way the OVO rapper's own tracks did Meek Mill last summer.
Hip Hop Reacts To The Philando Castile Killing
Less than 24 hours after police officers shot and killed 37-year-old black man Alton Sterling on Baton Rouge, LA, a Minnesota cop fatally shot 32-year-old Phlando Castile, also a black man, at at traffic stop on Wednesday night.

Top Tracks: June 27 - July 3
As opposed to a winter and spring that found a lot of repeat appearances in our Top Tracks list, summer's been more of a free-for-all, with quick week-to-week turnover as everyone seeks to land a summer anthem. Sure enough, we've only got two returning tracks from last week's list, and following another big recent trend in this feature, both involve Drake. Drizzy's got fingerprints on three of these ten tracks, as does Future, a sure sign that the What A Time To Be Alive team are still comfortably the hottest in the game.
Meek Mill Responds To Joe Budden Diss: "He’s Been Dead Since 2003"
Joe Budden's “Making A Murderer” may have been meant primarily as a Drake diss track, but so far, it's Meek Mill who has been the most responsive to Budden's jabs.
