While 50 Cent gets a brunt of the credit for the hit TV show Power, Courtney Kemp was the one to write and develop the original concept as a show-runner. Still, 50 believes Kemp has downplayed his indelible contributions to the series' success, as revealed in his new interview with Variety.
He answered a question about which collaborator he'd never want to work with again, pointing to the writer and producer. "I don’t think that she’s wholeheartedly a bad person, I just think that it got out of control for her," the G-Unit mogul remarked. "After the success of Power, she would go, 'I wrote it.' Well, you did write it, but I uploaded everything that you wrote, and we got a 'no' from everybody before we got a 'yes,' and I wrote songs that captured, at its nucleus, each one of the leads that we had and that emotionally captured energy for scenes."
He also recalled those songs being instrumental for pitches to Starz's then-CEO Chris Albrecht, positing Kemp "forgot" about his efforts. Also, Fif said he had a lot of power in pushing the show, drawing folks to Starz, keeping them there, and making the show the success that it is. In addition, he complained about mismanaged budgets and claimed Kemp tried to run the network through just one show while rejecting other ideas. "Half the s**t she was saying just didn’t make sense," the rapper claimed.
50 Cent Blasts Courtney Kemp
In a statement to Variety, Courtney Kemp responded to 50 Cent. "While 50’s recollection of budgets and production requirements is uninformed, as he was rarely in a budget meeting, I have never once understated his importance in the genesis of Power. While he did not write nor create the series, he was a large part of its birth. That said, I am completely bewildered by his need to mention me in interviews or podcasts. I have completely moved on in my career, and I hope that the imminent success of Street Fighter allows him to do the same."
Elsewhere, 50 Cent has more foes to deal with, especially amid his Street Fighter press run. He made some very interesting and often fiery comments about Diddy, J. Cole, Rick Ross, and many more as of late.
