On HNHH's livestream, Aron and I also dove into the Diddy drama behind bars, 50 Cent's fiery press run, what's next for Young Thug, and more.

HotNewHipHop is back with another livestream breaking down some of hip-hop's most interesting debates and conversations of the moment. Our features editor Aron and I discussed Eminem and Kid Rock linking up for a new track, Diddy and his prison woes and wins, 50 Cent talking about the game in new interviews, what's next for Young Thug, and rapper alter egos that would make great Halloween costumes. We also talked about the new releases of the week and highlighted our artist "On The Come-Up."

Starting with Eminem and Kid Rock, Aron and I found their "Heal My Faith" collab to be not just musically grueling, but also a betrayal of what Slim Shady has stood for over the past decade. His anti-Trump stances vanished when it came to working with an old friend. While their history makes this a bit more understandable, we found it to reflect an odd, unnecessary, and shallow turn that only dampens any excitement for new music in the future.

Before that, Aron and I talked about Diddy's prison controversies, whether it's his alleged contraband or an alleged fight with a Jamaican drug lord. Sadly, this situation has taken some attention away from the accountability and rehabilitation Sean Combs should be focused on behind bars for his crimes and allegations. We believe it shows how power dynamics don't disappear in jail, arguing about how this has affected other inmates.

Later on, Aron and I broke down 50 Cent's many interesting comments during his Street Fighter press run, specifically about other rappers. He had hot takes on J. Cole, Drake, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and many others throughout this. Overall, while it's always at least funny to hear Fif rant and make wild statements, we concluded it's a reflection of his dominance-obsessed approach to business and music.

As for Young Thug and his recent updates, news of a new album, a YSL RICO documentary, and big business moves from him and Gunna made Aron and I question if he can still be compelling as a solo artist. After all, Slime Language 3 features a new generation, and UY SCUTI already left a sour taste. As huge Thugger fans, we hope we're wrong about our skepticism.

Aron and I also discussed rapper alter egos that would make for great Halloween costumes this spooky season. We highlighted the late great MF DOOM, Tyler, The Creator's "IGOR," Kool Keith's iconic Doctor Octagon, Nicki Minaj's Roman, and others.

Finally, as for new music, Aron and I highlighted the specific singles "Bombs" and "Chiltern Firehouse" from Doechii and fakemink and Skepta, respectively. We also shouted out Kevin Holliday (with his Pink Siifu-assisted "Drop Top" single) and H.LLS (with their SamRecks collab "HOUSEPARTY") for our "On The Come-Up" segment.

Gabriel Bras Nevares is a staff writer for HotNewHipHop. He joined HNHH while completing his B.A. in Journalism & Mass Communication at The George Washington University in the summer of 2022. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Gabriel treasures the crossover between his native reggaetón and hip-hop news coverage, such as his review for Bad Bunny’s hometown concert in 2024. But more specifically, he digs for the deeper side of hip-hop conversations, whether that’s the “death” of the genre in 2023, the lyrical and parasocial intricacies of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake battle, or the many moving parts of the Young Thug and YSL RICO case. Beyond engaging and breaking news coverage, Gabriel makes the most out of his concert obsessions, reviewing and recapping festivals like Rolling Loud Miami and Camp Flog Gnaw. He’s also developed a strong editorial voice through album reviews, think-pieces, and interviews with some of the genre’s brightest upstarts and most enduring obscured gems like Homeboy Sandman, Bktherula, Bas, and Devin Malik.
