Isn't this something? Not only is Meek Mill in jail and his sophomore album is delayed indefinitely, but Jeezy also took a trip behind bars after getting caught with an assault rifle. He posted the $1 million bail, but the CTE suddenly got trouble on his head after pleading not guilty.

Don't underestimate those Canadian crowds. Though Edmonton, Alberta, Canada doesn't have nearly the rep that YG's native South Central L.A. has had for years, his show in the city last night proved that Edmontonian hip-hop fans still have the ability to wyle out with the best of 'em.

Rappers are constantly quoting one another in songs. Sometimes it's enough to justify a writing credit, while other times its simply a subtle nod or easter egg to those who know the original source. Drake's verse on YG's "Who Do You Love" certainly falls into the latter category, though Rappin 4-Tay-- the emcee Drizzy interpolates on the verse --felt he should have been compensated.

DJ Mustard has certainly established himself as a hitmaker this year, but unfortunately it comes as a price. As much as DJ Mustard's sound has penetrated the charts, it's being replicated at a high rate. Iggy Azalea's "Fancy"-- a song bigger than anything Mustard has produced thus far --is one of the most blatant takes on the sound, and the DJ's creative partner YG had a few words to share regarding the similarities in a recent freestyle.

When hip-hop began, samples were all that DJs and producers had to construct instrumental tracks with. They'd dig through crates of vinyl trying to find isolated drum breaks, melodies or vocals that they could repurpose for use in hip-hop music. Today, sampling has become less common, but a choice sample can still push a track from lukewarm to hot faster than you can say "uh-huh honey".

DJ Mustard made headlines last week when video of a scuffle between Mistah F.A.B.'s crew and his own hit the web. The tension between the posses was rooted in F.A.B.'s belief that Mustard had not properly credited the Bay Area with informing his sound.

YG has seen plenty of success with his debut album My Krazy Life, and some of this success is due to the catchy, new West Coast sound provided by YG's partner in crime, DJ Mustard. Mustard handled the majority, although not all, of the production on My Krazy Life, and the two have definitely evolved together as a rapper/producer duo over the years. Now that they're in the spotlight, many are wondering what they'll do next. It looks like the next move, perhaps unsurprisingly, will be to launch their own record label.

    Charts Don’t Lie: April 20
    Apr 20, 2014 at 11:38am
This week on the charts we see a new entry with Top Dawg's lady SZA, who made a strong debut considering it's her first release on the label/first release for sale. Similar to Isaiah Rashad's Cilvia Demo, which debuted at #40, SZA's Z debuted at #39 by moving 7,000 units. This proves the strength of the TDE fan base and the support they have for the label, no matter the artist and style of that artist. Pharrell continues to show strength on the Billboard 200, showing us that he's in this for the long haul.

This week we have a new entry on Charts Don't Lie, with Mobb Deep's new album The Infamous Mobb Deep, celebrating their 20-year anniversary since The Infamous. Their sales are not huge mainstream numbers, but obviously loyal hip-hop heads came through for Havoc and Prodigy as they clock in at #49. We continue to see Jhene Aiko's Sail Out hold on to a spot on the Billboard 200, not too high and not too low, at the mid-40s. She actually finds herself above Drake's NWTS this week, which may come as a surprise.

This week we don't have many new entries to speak of, save for Sage The Gemini's Remember Me. Depending on the numbers Smoke DZA's new album Dream.ZONE.Achieve did, we may or may not see it pop up on Charts Don't Lie next week, though. This week remains fairly unexciting, as Pharrell manages to climb up the charts while Rick Ross descends, and Pharrell picks up pace sales-wise too.
