J. Cole is going a unique route with his upcoming album 2014 Forest Hills Drive. He's shying away from traditional promo and album campaign, instead getting the fans directly involved by hosting a listening session at his childhood home (which the LP is named after) and inviting fans to come through. He's also not dropping any singles leading up to the December 9th release date.

Rap fans have been talking about Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole's promised collaborative project for years, and just when it seemed all hope was lost for the album, some major hints have arrived. Yesterday, K.Dot and Cole remixed one another's songs for Black Friday, and right at the end of his track, Cole shared a vague promise: "When you and K. Dot shit dropping? / Bitch never, they can’t handle two black niggas this clever / But this February, bet shit get scary when I fuck around and drop..."

Ladies and gentlemen, the day foretold has finally arrived. Available for streaming now on Spotify, the new record features no credited guest appearances, almost guaranteeing that the release is the emcee's most personal to date. While Cole may handle all of the mic work on this one, the project is far from a solo effort, however.

Review: J. Cole's "2014 Forest Hills Drive" Dec 15, 2014 at 06:25pm
J. Cole has come a long way from rapping about how to get up off the sideline. Three albums in, with 2014 Forest Hills Drive, the “God” is home. The Fayetteville, North Carolina native composed an honest, nostalgic album without any apologies. Cole typically plays it safe, straddling the fence of a conscious rapper who can still create commercial hits and enjoy a good romp in the bed.

There were certainly a lot of "Control" responses within the weeks of Kendrick Lamar's infamous verse, but not one from the actual rappers mentioned. Better late than never, J. Cole offered a unique response (or moreso a reaction) to the call-out this month, with a guest verse on Justin Timberlake's "TKO (Remix)".

Nia Long Responds To J. Cole Saying He Was "Too Young" For Her On "No Role Modelz" May 6, 2016 at 01:24pm
Actress Nia Long sat down with Larry King recently, and King, a noted hip-hop enthusiast, asked her about why she has been mentioned in so many hip-hop songs. She explained that hip-hop began blowing up around the same time as black actors like herself were starting to land major roles, and thus, rappers often saw her as a symbol of success. Her good looks probably didn't hurt either. King went on to mention that the most recent rapper to namedrop Nia Long in a song is J. Cole, who, on the 2014 Forest Hills Drive song "No Role Modelz," rapped:

Trick-Trick Suggests Banning J. Cole From Detroit Following Eminem "Diss" Dec 7, 2014 at 04:48pm
Trick-Trick may be a rapper, but he's primarily known as the creator of the "No Fly Zone" policy that he enforces in his hometown of Detroit. Trick has been known to ban rappers from the city if they do not actively support the Detroit rap scene or collaborate with artists from the region. We most recently saw some conflict arise from this when Rick Ross attempted to play a show in Michigan, but it appears J.

Jay Electronica Disses Drake & J. Cole During Live Show Aug 19, 2015 at 02:47pm
In hip hop, one of the most important factors in determining an artist's legacy and greatness is still the album. Although some would argue that the medium is past its prime, debates about "legends" or even "best rappers alive" usually involve the artists' discography, which is why this latest Jay Electronica story is so hilarious. During a performance in London last night, the albumless wonder called himself "the God of hip hop" and sent shots at two artists in competition for that title, Drake and J. Cole.

With Drake's "Hotline Bling" recently becoming his biggest hit to date, the rapper seems to have mastered the art of the standalone single. Drizzy has been using loose tracks as a means to promote his albums for a few years now, and he's only become more generous with the release of singles since the launch of his OVO Radio show.

Various groups and fans have been more vocal recently about being outraged and offended by offensive lyrics from rappers.  Most recently we have the Lil Wayne Emmett Till line, and the Rick Ross date-rap reference, and the most recent, J. Cole's line on his "Jodeci" freestyle with Drake about autistic people.  Now Cole has penned a heartfelt letter apologizing for the line.

On this morning's episode of Ebro in the Morning, Ebro mentioned that he heard a rumor that a announcement will be made later this week regarding a Drake X J. Cole summer tour. Ebro, who is employed by Hot 97 and Apple Music, has deep ties in the music industry, so his claim could hold water.
