Behind the measured breakup statement, Megan Thee Stallion says her split from Klay Thompson left her shocked and struggling.

The clean break Megan Thee Stallion presented publicly in April apparently left far more damage behind closed doors. Months after ending her relationship with Klay Thompson, the Houston rapper says she is still dealing with the heartbreak and remains shocked by how suddenly their romance ended. In a new Marie Claire cover story, Megan admitted she is not pretending to be fully healed and has little interest in another relationship anytime soon.

Her description of the relationship itself is different from a breakup that initially sounded much more resolved. Megan said she felt “constantly on edge” while they were together and described herself as being “in a panic 24/7.” She also revealed that she is still struggling to eat normally as she works through the aftermath. “I ain’t never been through nothing like that in my whole life,” she said, adding that the split was “so abrupt” she still feels stunned.

Their Public Romance Looked Much Different Months Earlier

That contrast is especially noticeable because Megan and Thompson had been presenting a considerably happier picture before the split. The pair went public in July 2025, with Megan telling Page Six at the time that Thompson was the first person she had dated whom she considered “genuinely a nice person.” Their relationship later included family gatherings and hints that they were building a home life together. In February, Megan was even discussing the possibility of marriage.

The tone changed dramatically when she announced the breakup in April. Megan accused Thompson of cheating and said “trust, fidelity and respect” had been compromised in the relationship, according to People. She also alleged that he had become difficult during basketball season and suggested he was no longer sure monogamy suited him. Thompson hasn't publicly responded to the accusations.

Megan’s latest comments fill in some of what the original breakup statement left out. She now says the experience taught her to stop overriding her instincts when something feels wrong, admitting she had repeatedly given the relationship the benefit of the doubt. Whatever happened between them clearly did not end with a simple unfollow and a press statement.
