Lil Durk has divided hip-hop media, artists, and fans due to his murder-for-hire trial, with some supporting him and others celebrating his misfortune. 6ix9ine is squarely in the latter camp, which led to an argument with his friend DJ Akademiks over what he perceives to be favorable coverage of Durk amid his case.
In a clip from Akademiks' recent livestream caught by Akademiks TV on Twitter, he had Tekashi 6ix9ine on the phone via FaceTime. The New York-born rapper then hit the commentator and reporter with a hypothetical which connects to Ak's conflicts with Lil Baby.
"Watch me walk you down," he expressed. "I always got to use your mom, 'cause I know you wouldn't lie in front of your mom just to impress 45,000 people you don't know. In front of 58,000 people, put this on your mother that you love. Because I know you not gon' lie. You know if you tell me to put something on my mama, it's truthfully. If Lil Baby, me, and you was in a room, and Lil Baby was with one other n***a and they try to jump you, am I stepping in? Am I going to help you?"
"Yeah, of course. I know you would," DJ Akademiks responded. 6ix9ine continued: "Alright, now, it's you, Lil Baby, and Durk, and Lil Baby's mans, and Lil Baby's trying to jump you, is Durk going to help you?"
"Nah, I don't think so," Ak responded. "Exactly!" Tekashi exclaimed. "I walk s**t down! F**k is you talking about? Stop going hard for n***as, bruh. 'Cause you know, if a n***a trying to take you in front of me, I'm swinging. Durk not doing that."
6ix9ine Calls Out Lil Durk
Akademiks, however, pushed back. "That's not walking s**t down," he expressed. "No, no, no. 6ix, I'm not going hard for Durk. The point [of] what I'm trying to say is that you're trying to kick his back in acting like you've never been in that [situation]."
DJ Akademiks' commentary on the Lil Durk trial has led to media conflict with racists like Chud The Builder and legal conflict in the courtroom. After Ak's interview with Durk emerged during the trial, the judge sympathized with Akademiks, as he was never called as a witness or asked to participate.
6ix9ine thinks DJ Akademiks is giving the Chicago rapper too much grace, but other folks might have criticisms of the opposite. At the end of the day, it's clear the commentary on this situation is beyond the control of the messenger when biased perceptions and narratives interfere.
