With reports of JÄY-Z performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show circulating this week, there have been plenty of strong reactions. Some fans are excited that the artist will finally get to be on the biggest stage. Meanwhile, detractors aren't so sure that Hov is the right artist for this kind of look.
One of those people is former NFL wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who made a name for himself with the Cincinnati Bengals. During a recent episode of Speakeasy, Houshmandzadeh went off on JÄY-Z, claiming that no one wants to see this.
He said that while he enjoys Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint, he has absolutely no interest in watching Hov perform a full 20-minute set at the Super Bowl. He also pointed out that the Super Bowl will be in Los Angeles, and that JÄY-Z should have figured out a way to bring in someone closer to the community.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh Doesn't Want To See JÄY-Z
Houshmandzadeh also believes a set involving a plethora of international artists could have been the perfect move as well. While he will bop his head to some of Hov's most iconic hits, he won't be excited for the rest of it.
It is expected that JÄY-Z brings out the likes of Alicia Keys and Beyoncé. However, this may not be enough to sway public opinion. Ultimately, they've already performed at the Super Bowl, and there is a large contingent of NFL fans who simply want something new.
At this time, JÄY-Z and the NFL have yet to confirm the reports from this week. It remains to be seen whether or not the backlash will spark a last-minute internal change.
