A routine package delivery at Ne-Yo’s Georgia home allegedly ended with a dog attack and more than $9,000 in medical expenses. Dominique Bridgett is suing the R&B singer for negligence, claiming he failed to restrain an animal he knew had a history of aggressive behavior.
According to Yahoo! Entertainment, Bridgett says she arrived at the property on July 12, 2025, to deliver a package when the dog lunged at her without warning. According to the seven-page complaint, the animal bit her leg and left her with “severe bodily injury, pain, shock, and distress.” She maintains that she did nothing to provoke the attack.
The lawsuit identifies Ne-Yo by his legal name, Shaffer Chimere Smith, and alleges that he was aware of the dog’s temperament before Bridgett entered the property. Her case rests largely on that claim. She accuses Smith of failing to secure the animal despite knowing it could pose a danger to visitors.

How Georgia Determines Liability
Bridgett says she has already spent $9,039.50 on medical treatment. She is also seeking compensation for future pain, emotional suffering, and what the complaint describes as a diminished ability to enjoy her life. The filing does not specify the total amount requested.
Knowledge of a dog’s prior behavior can become a central issue in Georgia injury cases. State law allows an owner or keeper to be held liable when careless management of a dangerous animal causes an unprovoked injury. A plaintiff generally must show that the dog had a dangerous tendency and that the person responsible knew about it, though a failure to follow local restraint laws can also factor into the case.
The complaint arrives shortly after another R&B star faced a costly verdict involving an attack at his home. A California jury ordered Chris Brown and his company to pay $12.9 million to former housekeeper Maria Avila after finding them liable for injuries caused by a security dog in 2020. However, the cases are unrelated and were filed in different states.
Ne-Yo has not publicly responded to Bridgett’s allegations.
