Sexyy Red's sexually overt lyrics and performances have been controversial from the very beginning. But whether you like it or not, that's the St. Louis native's brand. Based on internet discourse, it feels 50/50 on where people stand on her.
However, that percentage is swinging in that negative direction after her latest act. The "SkeeYee" artist decided to share a remix she's been working on to one of Michael Jackson's many iconic hits, "Beat It."
It was actually previewed by Lil Yachty, who captioned the post in a joking manner. "sneak peek scene of the new michael biopic," he typed. While we are sure the recording was made in good fun, this modern rendition is completely bastardized.
That's a take that many have expressed since it came to light yesterday. "MJ rolling in his grave," one X user claimed. Another adds, "I know damn well the Jackson's is not signing off on this trash." A third denounces the newer crop of MCs. "I hate this generation of rappers."
Well, it appears that Michael Jackson's team doesn't appreciate Sexyy Red's sexually charged version either. They released an official but also very blunt message, slamming her in the process.
Sexyy Red Controversies
"We were totally unaware of this. The use of the music is unauthorized," it says simply. Fans are happy to see Sexyy Red getting called out, giving Michael's estate props for maintaining the integrity of the late singer's discography.
"Salute to the estate. Get that BS outta here," one Kurrco commenter replies. Another echoes that sentiment. "Glad Mike’s estate didn’t let this bullsh*t slide."
Still, Sexyy Red has yet to respond to any of the criticisms, let alone from MJ's team.
We will see if she does though as she's proven to stand her ground before. Whether that be for her political affiliations or dispelling rumors, Red doesn't play games too often.
That especially goes for latter as she got tangled up in false reports about wanting to be in a polyamorous relationship with GloRilla and Brandon Ingram. A parody account created a fake comment that was left under a post from the rapper/NBA player couple that read, "B*tch lets be sister wives."
Red fired back saying, "I wasn’t even gone say nun but dis is wierd and fake asf. I don’t even play des kinda games df… & whoever sat there and thought to do dis is hella lame !!"
