Between Papoose revisiting the Roach controversy and Claressa Shields flaunting her unbeaten record, Gervonta Davis is catching jabs.

One unsolicited fashion critique has turned into an argument about boxing records, and Papoose is making sure Gervonta Davis gets his share of the insults. The Brooklyn rapper has stepped in to defend his girlfriend, Claressa Shields, after Davis publicly ridiculed her outfit at a recent listening party. Rather than debate her wardrobe, Papoose went straight for one of the more controversial moments in Davis' boxing career.

The disagreement began when Davis shared footage of Shields posing on the red carpet at her Nov. 2 event in Atlanta. Wearing a black lace-up outfit with red thigh-high boots, the undefeated champion was celebrating her new music when Davis weighed in. "You look a hot ass mess," he wrote. Shields initially responded by promoting her single "Party" before taking a shot at his history of domestic violence allegations, which Davis has disputed. Papoose subsequently joined the exchange, bringing up Davis' contentious fight against Lamont Roach Jr.

"Roach was getting off on that n***a," Papoose wrote on Instagram Stories, tagging Davis' account. He also mocked the boxer's claim that hair grease got into his eyes during the bout. Papoose pointed out that Davis' hairstylist had publicly disputed his account.

Papoose Brings Up Gervonta Davis' Controversial Draw

The reference dates back to March 2025, when Davis fought Roach to a majority draw after a disputed ninth-round incident. Davis voluntarily took a knee and went to his corner, claiming that hair grease was burning his eyes. The referee didn't count the incident as a knockdown, a decision that might have changed the outcome had it gone Roach's way. Davis' hairstylist later challenged his explanation, questioning how much grease could have remained in his hair after several days.

Still, that wasn't the end of Pap and Tank's exchange. They continued their heated back-and-forth, trading social media messages. At one point, they suggested meeting face to face to settle the verbal score.

Shields has since offered another response on X, expressing amusement that grown men continue making her their business. "lol oooooweee the devil is busy 😂😂😂!" she wrote. "For these little ass grown men to keep making it their business to speak on me is funny. I'm an active CHAMPION 🤣🤩! UNDEFATED!" She finished with another jab at Davis' recent inactivity, writing, "Nigguhs had one☝🏾close fight and ain't came back to boxing since 🫵🏾😮‍💨"
