It’s been over three years since the death of YNG Cheese, Gillie Da Kid’s son, who was tragically killed in a shooting in Philadelphia. Over the years, Gillie has continued to keep his son’s legacy alive and share his own pain to help others who’ve also had to lose a child. Most recently, he shared a powerful message in a video from Cheese’s gravesite.
“To anybody that’s lost a child, my heart will always be with you. Always. Understand this, it never gets better. So when people say it gets better with time, it don’t get better,” he said with tears in his eyes. “But when you need to let that sh*t out, you let it out, you hear me? You let it out. And after you get it out, it’s chin up and chest out.”
Gillie Da Kid's Message
Although his son never received justice, Gillie Da Kid revealed in an interview last year that the police told him who may have been responsible for the shooting of his son. Noah Scurry, a local basketball star in Philly, was reportedly shot outside of his home in 2025. However, while speaking to Shannon Sharpe, Gillie said that the police notified him that Scurry was among those who were going to get arrested for the shooting.
“Only reason I knew is because the police called me and told me once he was murdered,” he said. “‘Cause the kid had just got shot 17 times he was walking with his mom and he got murdered and then the police notified me and let me know that he was one of the kids that was pretty much about to get locked up for the murder, but he got murdered first."
