Hitmaka, formerly known as Yung Berg, was reportedly assaulted and robbed at a Detroit nightclub back in 2008. During a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast, he reflected on the experience, revealing what he wishes he could have done differently.
"I got up out of the city at the time, 'cause they had really done a number on me," he recalled. "But I wish I'd have stayed all f*cked up and bruised up and performed for my fans. I think the narrative would've went a little bit different, but I was listening to too many different label executives and management at the time."
"Everybody got to put their spin on [the narrative] instead of me jumping out and saying, 'Yo, this is what happened, this is what ain't happened,'" he continued. "That's why I can't f*ck with Tory Lanez. I love Tory Lanez, but I can't. 'Cause if he ain't do none of that sh*t, the first thing he should have been doing is street credibility. 'Yo, this ain't happen, that ain't happen.' That's why you can't condemn Meg. [...] You've got to get in front of that sh*t, especially on these levels, for real. I was young and dumb, and didn't have the right guidance at that time."

Hitmaka's remarks quickly caught the attention of Lanez, who wasted no time responding. "From Tory: man wtf yo hood tour chain got to do with me [laughing emoji]," he wrote in DJ Akademiks' comments section. "I didn't rob u yung berg .... They did."
Later on, Hitmaka discussed the fact that eventually, Soulja Boy ended up with his stolen chain. According to him, he has no idea how.
Unsurprisingly, Soulja Boy has taunted him about this over the years. In 2021, after Hitmaka mentioned him on The Breakfast Club, he even challenged him to come get it back. "Didn’t I take your chain a long time ago?" he asked at the time. "That Transformer chain you ain’t never get it back."
