While some haters continue to call Lil Baby "washed," the reception to his new album "FRESH" is more positive than previous works.

Lil Baby is combating the "washed" allegations against him on his new album FRESH, and it's led to some interesting results online. While there are still many haters out there who think he's not at the same level he was in the late 2010s and early 2020s, plenty of folks online seem to dig this new project from him.

Of course, these days, it's hard to run into music discourse that doesn't immediately hail something as the album of the year or dismiss it as absolute garbage. As for the more halfway takes on FRESH, some folks on Twitter brought up the beat selection, the lyricism, the lack of too many features, and other factors as characteristics that work with and against each other.

This new LP features Future, Young Thug, and Rylo Rodriguez (twice), and they're all on one track, with Rylo guesting on another. That means the Atlanta MC mostly carried this solo, which some fans are very happy about. After all, it's the most reliable way to fight back against online narratives about not having enough gas in the tank.

All that said, though, if you're not already a Wham fan, this new full-length likely won't convince you otherwise. Still, the relatively shorter tracklist in comparison to It's Only Me or the WHAM extended cut means there's less room for error.

Lil Baby's FRESH

Lil Baby has other issues to worry about beyond fan reception, though. Some are speculating he may have beef with Moneybagg Yo thanks to some new lyrics on FRESH and some fresh social media interactions and statements. We'll see if that actually manifests into anything or just stays in the rumor mill.

It's one of Lil Baby's various hip-hop dynamics that are under scrutiny these days. Nevertheless, none of those narratives seem to overshadow FRESH, whether for good or bad reasons depending on whether or not you like it.

Fans React

But across 17 new cuts, Baby showed he's still sticking to his style, and he will most likely see some very solid commercial success. As for fan reception, we all need a few days to let the dust settle.

Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Gabriel treasures the crossover between his native reggaetón and hip-hop news coverage, such as his review for Bad Bunny’s hometown concert in 2024. But more specifically, he digs for the deeper side of hip-hop conversations, whether that’s the “death” of the genre in 2023, the lyrical and parasocial intricacies of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake battle, or the many moving parts of the Young Thug and YSL RICO case. Beyond engaging and breaking news coverage, Gabriel makes the most out of his concert obsessions, reviewing and recapping festivals like Rolling Loud Miami and Camp Flog Gnaw. He’s also developed a strong editorial voice through album reviews, think-pieces, and interviews with some of the genre’s brightest upstarts and most enduring obscured gems like Homeboy Sandman, Bktherula, Bas, and Devin Malik.
