Antonio Brown is known to cause a lot of drama from time to time, but his antics almost landed him in prison. For those unaware, he was facing an attempted murder charge for allegedly shooting in the direction of Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu and grazing his neck, but he has finally reached a plea deal in this case that doesn't involve any jail time.
According to TMZ, the former NFL player pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm or deadly weapon, a less serious charge in comparison to the attempted murder allegations. The judge in his case, Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez, gave him three years of probation, which has other factors. Brown must reportedly undergo a psychiatric evaluation and must not possess any firearms.
However, he won't have a criminal charge on his record thanks to this agreement. Also, the former pro wide receiver can reportedly request to end his probation after it's halfway done, if he complies with the rules set out for him and exhibits good behavior. Reportedly, his lawyer Mark English said the plea deal was "an offer he just couldn't refuse."
On the other hand, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu reportedly told TMZ Sports back in September of last year that he and his legal team supported AB's plea deal. "We want the best for Antonio," he reportedly expressed. "We want him to get the healing that he needs and, hopefully, he can seek that in the free world."
Antonio Brown's Plea Deal
Previously, Antonio Brown had struggled to secure his plea deal. In October, Judge Mendez said she needed more time to review the agreement he and his team reached with prosecutors. Reportedly, that initial agreement had stipulated a no contest plea to aggravated assault with a firearm rather than a guilty one. It would've resulted in the same sentence.
As such, Brown avoided 20 years of potential minimum jail time. Amid Antonio Brown's other antics, this at least puts this serious case behind him for good. Now, all that's left to see is how his probation term goes. Brown has been on house arrest with an ankle monitor amid this legal process, and can now move on from the scandal.
