A new album from Jhené Aiko might be the strongest indication that the summer is over and cuffing season has begun. However, the release of Westside Whimsey also had people suspecting that she’s ready to address her previous relationship with Big Sean. On the song, “He Belongs,” there were a few pointed lines that some interpreted as being about her ex, specifically about what led to their split.
“Can't turn a fling into a real thing/ Can't turn a promise to a wedding ring/ Can't turn a hoe into a husband,” she sings.
Fans naturally suspected that it had to do with the fallout of their high-profile relationship with Big Sean. However, that isn’t the case. She addressed the suspicions on Threads shortly after the album dropped. One page cited those lyrics, claiming that the lines were about catching Big Sean. “Song is not about him,” she wrote.

Elsewhere, someone asked, “Someone who has listened to the new Jhene Aiko album: did she just rip into Big Sean all the way through?” Aiko then responded, “No.”
There are other lyrics on the project that people interpreted as a shot at Big Sean that haven’t been addressed directly. However, she did provide a more blanket statement, denying that she’s trying to drag the father of her son on her latest body of work. So far, Big Sean hasn’t responded on chimed in on the controversy that’s been unfolding on X and Instagram since the album dropped this morning.
Westside Whimsey marks Jhené Aiko’s first album in six years following 2020’s Chilombo. She announced the album earlier this week before dropping it in its entirety. Westside Whimsey includes features from Ab-Soul, Tyga, Kendrick Lamar, and Larry June, who confirmed their relationship in August on “California Dream.”
