We will soon reach a verdict in the Lil Durk trial, though it’s been a bumpy road for everyone involved. The rapper is accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire scheme that targeted Quando Rondo as vengeance for the death of King Von. On Wednesday, FBI Special Agent Cody Burke, the supervisor on the investigation of Lul Pab’s killing, took the stand, where he testified detailed how Durk after search warrants were executed.
Per Complex, Wednesday delved into footage and digital forensics surrounding Durk’s whereabouts in the moments leading up to his arrest. One video showed Jason Smith, Lil Durk’s business partner, being searched by SWAT as he left his home. Then, there were phone records, text message chains, and GPS data of Kayvon “OTF Vonnie” Grant, a cooperating witness, traveling to Durk’s rental home in Encino, CA. Then, there were records that alleged Durk purchased burner phones and changed his number.
Lil Durk's Escape Plan, Explained
Agent Burke alleged that Smith informed Durk of the six search warrants that were executed on the morning of November 24th, 2024. However, there was also a paper trail of Durk’s supposed “escape plan.” Burke reportedly testified that an hour after Smith warned him of the 6 a.m. search warrants, Durk booked a flight from Fort Lauderdale to Zurich to Dubai. The agent also said that federal agents had been notified of other flights, including one from Miami to Dubai and a private flight from Dubai to Turin, Italy. Ultimately, the feds picked up Durk at the Fort Lauderdale airport’s FBO side.
This week, the judge provided jurors a tentative date to expect the trial to end. The prosecution has two more witnesses who will take the stand, while the defense is expected to complete cross-examination by Friday. Ultimately, this could mean that closing statements will rest on Tuesday since Monday is Labor Day. We will keep you posted on any further updates.
