We've seen Kendrick Lamar's style progress over the last little while, with the rapper getting more and more nods for his fashion sense. The TDE emcee spoke with Hypebeast about his status as a style icon, his influences, and whether or not he would ever enter the design world. "I feel comfortable with being a style icon," said Kendrick. "That's something new. I've been hearing that for quite some time this past year."

Saturday was the first day of Budweiser's 2013 "Made In America" festival, held at Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Noteworthy acts included A$AP Rocky, Solange, Public Enemy, 2 Chainz, and Beyonce, who headlined last night. Unfortunately, the live stream of the event was cut short after Bey performed her singles "Run the World (Girls)" and "End of Time" early on.

We see two new entries when it comes to hip-hop on Charts Don't Lie this week. They belong to Odd Future's Earl Sweatshirt and A$AP Mob's A$AP Ferg. While both rappers moved respectable amounts, it gives us a moment to think about the whole ideas of crews in hip-hop, and how no matter what, there is always one rap leader who has to make an impression on the audience first. For OF, this is Tyler, The Creator, for A$AP Mob it's Rocky. Following their rise in popularity, they try to put on their friends, as rappers tend to do-- sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

The countdown is on for Jay Z's second annual "Made In America" festival. This years lineup will feature Beyonce, Nine Inch Nails, TDE’s Black Hippy Crew, 2 Chainz, Empire of the Sun, ASAP Rocky, Miguel, Deadmau5, Wiz Khalifa, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, plus others at Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway on August 31 and Sept 1.

This week we really saw the effects of Kendrick Lamar's verse on "Control" transfer over to the charts. The rapper's debut album, which officially went platinum this past week, has been slowly creeping back up the charts, something we've been seeing on Charts Don't Lie over the past weeks. Rather than jumping the usual few places this week though, K. Dot leaped 17 spots into the top 50 of the Billboard 200-- now at #36.

Beyonce and Jay Z don't only have their sights on domination of New York, but potentially Chicago too-- it's been rumored that Bey and Jay have purchased the renowned New Regal Theater in Chi-town. The theater was reportedly purchased for the sum of $250,000, and the buyer is reportedly the power couple. The New Regal Theater which seats 2,500 people was first opened in 1927 as the Avalon Theater, and it closed down in 2003 because of money loss. However, the venue once played hosts to the likes of Etta James, Miles Davis, Billy Holiday and Nat King Cole.

Both artists had impressive debuts, with Thicke earning a #1 debut for the first time, and Tech N9ne earning his chart peak as well. Independent labels may just be the way of the future, as Mac Miller and Tech (and others) have proved again and again how they can do it big without major label backing. Tech Ninna's whole thing is that he's gunna make the mainstream come to him-- and indeed, it seems to be working.
