Dave Chappelle turned 50 last summer, but as he embarks on this new decade of life, it doesn't seem like his approach is any different. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the multi-talent's Netflix comedy special, The Closer, pushed boundaries a bit too far for the comfort of some. For months on end, both Chappelle and the streamer were criticized for platforming jokes about the LGBTQ+ community, among other sensitive topics. Online movements were petitioning for Netflix to stop working with the Washington, D.C. native, though they did not affect Dave's continuing to secure the bag.

On New Year's Eve, The Dreamer made its debut on the website, bringing controversy like only Chappelle can. At one point in the show, the father of three brings up gay rapper Lil Nas X, who reportedly wanted to collaborate with him on his 2021 "MONTERO" music video. "I know a dreamer when I see one and I’ve met many powerful dreamers in my life — none more powerful than the man who calls himself Lil Nas X," he told his audience. "I met this n***a at a party; I had no idea who he was. But the minute he walked into that party, I knew I was in his dream."

Lil Nas X Wants Dave Chappelle to Leave the Past in the Past

When Lil Nas heard what Chappelle had to say about him and his art, he took to Twitter/X to share a few thoughts. "Y'all gotta let 'Call Me By Your Name' go," he urged followers. "Me and the devil broke up three years ago. Y'all acting like children of divorce." Currently, the "DEAD RIGHT NOW" artist is embarking on his "Christian Era," showing off a new musical and fashionable side of himself we've never witnessed before.

After the scandal that came following Dave Chappelle's The Closer special on Netflix, some are shocked to see the 50-year-old back with more "dark humour." He's obviously been reading negative reviews of his work, as Chappelle promised plenty of "handicap jokes and punching down," much to the disdain of critics.
