YNW Melly has been in jail since February of 2019, which means it has been almost eight years since he was initially locked up. Despite this, his double murder case has not reached an official verdict. A hung jury led to a mistrial the first time around. Now, prosecutors are attempting to retry the case, with a tentative date of January 6, 2027.
Regardless of his status, Melly remains behind bars. The court has refused to give the artist bond, despite his legal team's numerous attempts. Drew Findling and Carey Haughwout have done everything they can for their client, but still, the system persists.
There are now signs that this process is starting to wear on Melly. According to reporter Bryson "Boom" Paul, YNW Melly did not attend his court hearing on Monday. As it turns out, this is the second hearing he has missed in just a short amount of time. In a brief message to the Broward Sheriff's office, Melly simply said: "Not going to court."

His mother, Jamie King, has been active on social media throughout this process. She has kept the faith that her son will be released in due time. On her Instagram story, she posted about her faith and how it is giving her comfort during this difficult time.
“Let us pray! Heavenly Father, As I begin this day, I pray for a disciplined mind and a grateful heart. Help me to focus on solutions instead of problems and possibilities instead of limitations. Remove every spirit of fear, doubt, and discouragement that tries to settle over my thoughts," King wrote.
