A judge reportedly ordered 500 prospective jurors to be summoned for YNW Melly's jury selection in his double murder retrial.

YNW Melly is at the center of one of hip-hop's most controversial cases. After his double murder trial for allegedly murdering YNW Jucy and YNW Sakchaser ended in a mistrial in 2023, his retrial is quickly taking shape. Now, new court documents indicate the general public will somewhat be able to see part of this process.

According to XXL, a judge granted permission for the court to livestream the jury selection process in this upcoming trial. Per documents reportedly obtained on Thursday (October 15), Judge Martin S. Fein outlined strict requirements for this process in administrative orders to the Broward County Clerk in Florida from October 13.

Judge Fein reportedly ordered the summoning of 500 prospective jurors for the jury selection process. The court will reportedly screen availability in groups of 50 and lead to a 60-person panel of prospective jurors formed from eligible individuals.

Also, the judge reportedly expressed concern for the safety and welfare of lawyers, courtroom personnel, the general public, and prospective jurors. Judge Fein wants to implement tighter security for the livestreamed jury selection process, highlighting "numerous incidents of inappropriate contact and inappropriate communication and attempted communication between the prospective jurors and numerous members of the public" during YNW Melly's previous trial.

Thus, the court will not allow the general public to sit inside the jury selection process' courtroom. Instead, the public will be able to witness the process via livestream from a separate courtroom.

When Is YNW Melly's Retrial?

YNW Melly has been behind bars since February of 2019, when law enforcement initially arrested him for the murder of YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser. He and his legal team continue to claim innocence and call out this lengthy jail time. Melly's next court appearance will reportedly take place on October 27 of this year, if everything goes according to the current schedule. Similarly, if all goes according to the current plan, the double murder retrial will begin in January of 2027.

Despite this controversial legal battle. YNW Melly is still dropping music. He released the Collect Call II project this August as his legal team blasted the denial of his bond.
