The rapper’s legal team is asking the Texas Fourth Court of Appeals to review alleged constitutional and evidentiary errors from his trial.

Tay-K remains determined to regain his freedom following his murder conviction. Complex reports that his attorneys submitted a Brief of Appellant this week to the Texas Fourth Court of Appeals, seeking to challenge the conviction. Interestingly, the filing surpassed the court’s word limit, forcing Tay-K’s legal team to request permission before submitting it. They ultimately asked to present their arguments directly to the court in person.

Tay-K’s legal team has argued that multiple problems occurred throughout the trial. His attorneys identified 13 separate issues they believe played a role in his conviction when they should not have. Among those concerns were alleged violations involving constitutional rights and evidence they argue should have been excluded, with trial transcripts cited to support their position.

The filing also points to apparent friction between Tay-K’s attorneys and the judge during proceedings. One particular exchange was highlighted as potential support for that argument, with his attorneys stating, “I understand for the purpose of the record, the Court’s upset with me. The Court’s tone of voice indicates that.”

There were also questions surrounding Joanna Reyes, who testified for prosecutors during the trial. According to Tay-K’s attorneys, prosecutors gave jurors a misleading picture of Reyes despite allegations that she had violated her bond conditions multiple times.

Tay-K is currently serving 55 years for a 2016 murder in Mansfield, along with an 80-year sentence stemming from a San Antonio shooting. The sentences are being served concurrently, while this latest appeal concerns his San Antonio conviction.

Since his incarceration, Tay-K has dropped off a handful of new singles. In August, he dropped "Punch You Down." Prior to that, he dropped off "Everywhere I Go" and "Erupt."

We’ll continue following the case and provide further updates as they develop.
