Usher and Chris Brown’s legacies were documented into the Congressional Record, though Rep. Jasmine Crockett is facing a lot of backlash because of it. The Texas Congresswoman appeared in Arlington for the R&B tour at the A&T Stadium, alongside State Rep. Venton Jones and Roccstar. They emerged on stage to “honor” the R&B stars.
“We are experiencing Black joy at the highest level,” she said, according to video from the concert. “And I wanted to make sure we document that at the congressional level. So let’s give it up again for Chris Brown.” Brown expressed his gratitude and gave Crockett a hug.
Crockett’s appearance adds to the list of viral moments that the R&B Tour produced over the summer. However, it might also be among the most controversial. The Texas Congresswoman immediately faced backlash for honoring Chris Brown, especially considering his legal issues over the years. Many fans pointed to his conviction in 2009 when he was found guilty of felony assault against Rihanna.
Jasmine Crockett Faces Controversy
This also caused a lot of concern in the political realm, especially since James Talerico defeated Crockett in the Texas Democratic Senate primary. Since then, she hasn’t been on the campaign trail at all and that’s been concerning for the Democratic Party as we inch closer to the midterms. Interestingly enough, she did take a few jabs at Washington, stating that there are “a few scammers up in D.C.”
Outside of Crockett’s decision to honor Chris Brown and Usher, the R&B Tour has been an incredible success, leading the duo to extend their tour with additional dates. By early August, Pollstar reported that the tour already topped $100M based on 566,043 tickets sold. Evidently, the demand is high enough and Crockett’s presence certainly affirmed that.
