Going against Drake has had detrimental effects on Rick Ross, if only because the fanbase they once shared evidently chose a side that isn’t his. In the past few months, Ross has been continuing this rather one-sided feud, largely in what appears to be an attempt to keep his name in the headlines.
Most recently, Ross commented on The Game’s recently released The Documentary III, which contains two features from Ye and one from Drake. Even with that, The Game’s new album reportedly moved around 15K units in its first week. While it’s worth noting that the album arrived with only a few hours' notice, the fact that he pulled two superstars with fanbases embedded in the streaming era and still moved as many units as he did is a little surprising.
“That was a project that was released last week. The Documentary III. Two Kanye features, Drake, Party downstairs, Snoop Dogg, E-40, Marsha Ambrosius, Drakeo The Ruler,” he said. “More importantly, the point I want you to know is, Set In Stone, which is out right now, did more numbers than Documentary III with what they called the stimulus package. Listen, keep hustling, that’s what it’s all about.”
Rick Ross Talks First Week Sales
Rick Ross then provided some words of encouragement for The Game, acknowledging him as a necessary voice for the West Coast while telling up-and-comers not to get discouraged by first-week sales.
Though The Documentary III didn’t deliver excellent first-week sales, neither did Rick Ross’ new album. Set In Stone debuted on the Billboard 200 at #39 with 19K units moved in the first week, while The Game’s latest album landed at #68 with 15K units.
