Ray J just suffered a major setback in his ongoing legal battle with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner. According to AllHipHop, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge reportedly denied Ray J’s attempt to dismiss the defamation and false light claims filed against him by the mother-daughter duo. With the motion rejected, the case is currently expected to head to trial in May 2028.
The dispute stems from Ray J’s public comments about Kardashian and Jenner. During an October 2025 livestream, the singer claimed the two were facing a federal racketeering investigation. He also suggested their alleged legal problems could become “worse than Diddy.”
Ray J later argued that the remarks were exaggerated opinions rather than statements of fact. His legal team also claimed he believed the livestream had ended when he made them. However, the judge wasn’t convinced.
Ray J Faces Setback
According to the ruling, a reasonable viewer could interpret Ray J’s comments as factual allegations. The court also rejected his argument that he was unaware the livestream was still running. Ray J’s attorney, Howard King, has already indicated that they plan to appeal. King argues the ruling infringes on his client’s First Amendment right to express his opinions about Kardashian and Jenner.
The legal drama comes amid another dispute tied to Ray J and Kardashian’s infamous sex tape. According to TMZ, Ray J has accused Kardashian and Jenner of violating a previous agreement by discussing the tape on the family’s Hulu reality series. He eventually filed his own counterclaims.
For now, however, Kardashian and Jenner’s case has survived Ray J’s attempt to shut it down early. The ruling does not determine whether Ray J actually defamed either woman. Instead, it allows their claims to move forward toward trial, leaving both sides with plenty more legal fighting ahead.
