Twitter is speculating the contextual implications of his latest project.

Selena Gomez and The Weeknd were involved in a short, yet highly-publicized romance that continually grabbed headlines amid various public and private outings. However, late last year, it was confirmed that the two went their separate ways, as Gomez was spotted out with former fling Justin Bieber just days after news of their split went public.

Last night, The Weeknd released a surprise EP titled My Dear Melancholy, which is obviously shaded with themes of loss, regret and longing. Fans have taken to Twitter to speculate what personal/emotional turmoil influenced this unexpected release, and many are pointing to the dissolution of his relationship with the "Bad Liar" singer.

Specifically, on the track "Call Out My Name," he laments how "we found each other/I helped you out of a broken place/You gave me comfort/But falling for you was my mistake." He goes on to note how "I almost cut a piece of myself for your life/Guess I was just another pitstop/Til' you made up your mind."

Fans of The Weeknd have been postulating on Twitter whether or not his latest musical endeavour was given some pertinent contextual heft from his recent romantic hardships. Peep some of their reactions below:
