Just as the Nigerian populace ushers in a second electoral term with President Muhammadu Buhari, another one of the nation's leading voices is staging a tour de force of its own. Afrobeats superstar Davido, second only WizKid in popularity throughout the continent, is up for numerous awards, including the 2019 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for "Global Music Star," akin to winning a World titled that is voted on by adoring children.

This marks the second year in a row Davido slots in as Africa's selection for Nickelodeon's intercontinental award. This year he faces stiff competition from BlackPink of Asia, Troye Sivan representing Australia/New Zealand, Europe's David Guetta, Taylor Swift out of North America, J Balvin from South America and HRVY from the UK, which for some reason is entitled to a nomination separate from the Euro-criterion.
Other nominees include Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, and Juice WRLD, for a gala event slated for on Sunday, March 23, 2019. DJ Khaled will handle the hosting duties - announcing his appointment by insisting he'd once again "secured the bag." Below are the other 2019 nominees.
