Comedy Central has pulled the South Park episode, "Got a Nut," in the wake of Charlie Kirk's death. The episode originally aired on August 6 and featured the character of Eric Cartman doing an impersonation of the late political commentator.
Many fans of Kirk have been labeling the episode insensitive on social media, with some even alleging it could have inspired the attack. Before his death, Kirk said he enjoyed the episode and even changed some of his social media profile pictures to an image of Cartman mimicking him on the show.
Kirk was shot in the neck during a speech at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. The incident occurred about 20 minutes after he took the stage as he was discussing mass shootings in America. While police initially detained a suspect minutes after the attack, they eventually let him go and are now conducting a manhunt to find the actual shooter.
Both the FBI and ATF are on the scene investigating the incident. FBI Director Kash Patel wrote in a social media post: "We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation."
Charlie Kirk Shooting
Robert Bohls, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Salt Lake City field office, confirmed on Thursday morning that authorities recovered a rifle they believe the shooter used to kill Kirk. According to CNN, he described it as a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle” that investigators “recovered in a wooded area where the shooter had fled.”
Kirk closely aligned himself with Donald Trump throughout the 2024 Presidential Election. He addressed Kirk's death in a post on his Truth Social platform. "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead," he confirmed. "No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
