The rapper says people who think his music is too emotional are the type of people that avoid their pain.

Rod Wave says people who think his music is "too emotional" are running away from their own emotions. His recently released single has increased the negative feedback from members of the community that think his music focuses too much on emotion. However, the new single is not the first time Rod Wave has released an emotional song. It surely won't be the last. Still, If you visit the rapper's YouTube page, you'll see that he has almost 5 million subscribers. As such, it's unclear who is telling him that his music is too emotional. There are at least 5 million people that would disagree. That says a lot.

Rod Wave's newest single, "Fight The Feeling", features a melancholy guitar line over distorted 808s. Rod Wave's voice soars over the instrumental, proving once again that his talent as a rapper is equally matched by his talent as a vocalist. The song's lyrics, funnily enough, speak very frankly about people who hide their feelings through partying and escapism. "How’d you get so good at hiding your feelings?" he croons on the song. "You can’t keep patching up your pain taking shots at the bar."

Rod Wave Responds

Rod Wave responded to the criticism over his emotional music by taking to Instagram live. In the video, he addressed the issue head-on. Rod Wave says that it appears to him that those that hate him are the people that tend to avoid their feelings the most. Furthermore, he says that when he wrote the song "Fight The Feeling", he had his haters in mind. "I made this song just for those people," he commented. "I made them a song to turn up to."

Last year, before the release of his album Beautiful Mind, Rod Wave said that it would be his last "sad ass" project. “On my baby’s, dis my last sad ass album,” he tweeted. “I’m off dat, jus wanna live happy, travel, get dis money.” With the release of "Fight The Feeling", it's unsure if that still holds true for him. The song may not be as sad as some of his previous releases, but it certainly doesn't feel the the "turn up" song he makes it out to be. What do you think of Rod Wave's music? Is it too emotional or do you think the scene needs more emotional artists? Sound off in the comments to let us know!
