The infamous BET Awards mask has made its official return. As we continue to mourn the loss of XXXTentacion one week after his tragic passing, members of the hip-hop community have been public about their grieving processes on social media. As many are absolutely torn about the death of their peer, several tribute songs were released in honor of the late XXX. One of the most vocal has been Ski Mask the Slump God, X's best friend from a long time ago. Initially sharing his shock with the world when he heard the news, Ski is doing his best to further his friend's legacy. The next step was to honor him came at the BET Awards last night.
So much happened last night with Meek Mill debuting a new track, J. Cole bringing out some special guests and plenty of worthy award celebrations. One of the most under-the-radar appearances was Ski Mask the Slump God, who decided to deck himself out in a similar mask to the one X wore at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in October of last year. While not entirely the same mask, the inspiration is clear as the two shared a genuine friendship. His appearance was not the most publicized out of who attended the gig last night but it was loud enough to turn heads and bring everyone to remember the late XXXTentacion.
Meek Mill similarly used his attire as a tribute to the two fallen rappers, XXXTentacion and Jimmy Wopo, rocking a sweatshirt with both of their faces painted on.
