Barack Obama has been quite vocal about Donald Trump's reign, in recent months. At John McCain's funeral service, Obama's sneak disses were highly detectable. "The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again, because America was always great," he said in a stately manner. The latest rubbing comes to us courtesy of a keynote speech at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Friday. Obama accused Donald Trump of not doing enough to quell a growing fascist element in America.
"We are Americans. We’re supposed to stand up to bullies, not follow them," Obama said. "We’re supposed to stand up to discrimination and we’re sure as heck supposed to stand up clearly and unequivocally to Nazi sympathizers.... How hard can that be? Saying that Nazis are bad."
Beyond that, Obama also presented a theory that Trump owed his political platform to a fear mongering campaign he's undertaken since he entered the Republican race in 2015. "He is just capitalizing on resentment that politicians have fanning for years," added Obama. "A fear, an anger that is rooted in our past but is also borne in our enormous upheavals that have taken place in your brief lifetimes."
In closing, Obama did acknowledge that even the Democrats were guilty of using similar tactics in the past. The former President was on hand to receive an ethics award from the University following his speech.
