Often billed as g-funk, Warm Brew's new song sounds more like a mix between Anderson .Paak and OutKast. Although there are moments of Nate Dogg influence, the song mostly alternates between full-on funk and full-on rap (the beat cuts away a few times to showcase the bars of Serk Spliff, Ray Wright, and Manu Li, who all have refreshingly different styles.)
On this track, things feel like they're coming together for Warm Brew. In the past they made rock music, but a couple years back they switched to rap and met Dom Kennedy; ever since they've been developing an intriguing, very West-coast style and now, it feels like they've landed somewhere permanent and unique. As Serk told noisey:
No one’s tapped into this shit. We’re the ‘Ghetto Beach Boyz,’ but we do the same shit that niggas do in South Central. It’s just [that] we live by the beach. There’s no difference. We provide the good-time aspect—even when we’re talking about the most introspective shit in the world, it’s still like ‘Yo, life ain’t that fuckin bad!’ and that’s what the Westside teaches niggas: No matter how bad anything is, you live by the beach.
