Before P!nk became a household name, Kandi Burruss helped write her debut single, "There You Go." More than 25 years later, both women are up for one of songwriting's biggest honors. The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced its 2027 nominees, with Ne-Yo, Lady Gaga, Shakira, and several other familiar names joining the ballot.
The nominations, announced Thursday (Nov. 5), recognize artists whose songwriting has influenced generations of popular music. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the selections span numerous genres, with particularly strong representation from R&B and pop.
Burruss is nominated in the songwriter category, which recognizes writers whose work goes beyond their own recordings. Her contributions include TLC's "No Scrubs," Destiny's Child's "Bills, Bills, Bills," and *NSYNC's "It Makes Me Ill." Meanwhile, Ne-Yo is competing in the performing songwriter category, with a catalog that includes his own hits alongside songs written for other artists. His credits include Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable," Mario's "Let Me Love You" and Rihanna's "Take a Bow." Lady Gaga is also nominated, with compositions such as "Poker Face," "Bad Romance," and "Shallow" helping establish her as one of Pop's most recognizable writers.

Grandmaster Melle Mel earned a nomination for his contributions to Hip Hop, including Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five's landmark recording "The Message."
The songwriter category also features will.i.am, whose works range from the Black Eyed Peas' "Where Is the Love?" to Usher's "OMG." Norwegian production duo Stargate, responsible for hits including Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable" and Rihanna's "Diamonds," earned a nomination alongside Maurice Starr, known for his work with New Edition and New Kids on the Block.
The ballot reaches even further into R&B history. George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, known professionally as Boy Meets Girl, are recognized for writing Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)." Other nominees include members of WAR, Blondie, and the songwriting team Stock Aitken Waterman. The official nominee list also includes Jack White and Boy George.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame requires candidates to have a notable catalog and at least 20 years since their first commercially released song. Eligible members can vote for up to three nominees in each category, with ballots due by midnight Eastern on December 14. The final 2027 inductees will be announced early next year, ahead of the annual ceremony in New York City.
