NBA YoungBoy has recently been teasing retirement from the rap game, but interest around his life and career is still at heightened levels. As caught by DJ Akademiks on Instagram, newly surfaced bodycam footage of his reported 2020 arrest hit the Internet this week. Despite it happening over half a decade ago, fans still reacted to it with strong emotions.
This arrest was reportedly during a 2020 music video shoot for YB's track "Dirty Stick," which reportedly led to state and federal drug and gun charges. In the bodycam footage Akademiks shared on IG, police officers interrogate him and ask him questions about his name and whether or not he knew his rights.
YoungBoy Never Broke Again said he spoke with the officer who cuffed him, denying that he possessed guns or drugs on the scene. Officers also asked him about the car he drove in, they laughed about alleged drug possession, and eventually allowed him to leave the room.
It's a brief clip which led many fans of the Baton Rouge lyricist to bring up earlier bodycam footage. Although NBA YoungBoy's career is far from past legal trouble, footage like this continues to emerge and cause folks to reevaluate or revisit these clashes.
NBA YoungBoy Footage
NBA YoungBoy's legal team has responded to these instances of resurfaced footage before. For example, back in August of this year, debate once again materialized over footage of him having a physical altercation with his then-partner Jania Meshell.
"It was a misdemeanor matter, resolved nearly 10 years ago," YB's lawyer Jimmy Manasseh told TMZ after the footage emerged. "I don't think [it's a big deal]. I believe she requested to drop charge. He was on probation in East Baton Rouge and he was not revoked because of it."
While NBA YoungBoy still comes up in hip-hop cases here and there, he's in a very different place of his career compared to previous turbulence. It makes instances like this 2020 interrogation hitting the Internet a bit odd to look back on. After all, folks have a tendency to focus on the past rather than prioritize the present.
