The Air Jordan 12 'Sumo' is releasing exclusively through a Japan-only raffle, with entries opening this week.

The Air Jordan 12 "Sumo" is officially releasing through a Japan-only raffle, and international collectors won't have a shot at this one. Atmos is handling the entire rollout, with entries open now through select dates this month.

Black leather covers most of the upper, layered with subtle wave-style embossing that nods to traditional Japanese art. A rich purple wraps the midsole and mudguard, paired with gold details on the lace locks and Jumpman branding. It's a clean, culturally rooted design that fits right into Jordan Brand's growing lineup of region-specific releases.

The raffle itself runs through atmos, opening August 14th at 6PM and closing August 21st at 8:59AM. Entry requires a free atmos membership, and only those living in Japan are eligible to apply. There's no workaround here, this release is staying regional by design.

Winners won't get a direct notification either. Instead, results post inside each member's Raffle Entry History section starting August 23rd at 9AM, meaning anyone who enters will need to check their account manually. Pairs for winners are expected to ship out between August 23rd and August 28th.

Jordan Brand has leaned more into country-exclusive raffles over the past couple years, and "Sumo" continues that pattern. Limiting a release to a single country keeps hype local while still generating plenty of attention from collectors who can't enter.

Atmos has become one of Jordan Brand's partners for these kinds of exclusive Japan drops, running raffles that stay outside typical global SNKRS access. That partnership gives the retailer pull within Japan's sneaker scene.

For collectors outside the country, the only realistic path to a pair will be resale once winners actually receive their shoes. Given the design and the exclusivity built into this release, expect resale interest to climb fast once pairs start shipping.

The scarcity is what turns a release like this into more than just another colorway. It's a reminder that not every Jordan drop is meant to go wide, and sometimes that's the whole point.
