Westside Gunn has already dropped one track this week, but the New York rapper has returned with some news that is sure to excite his fans, and perhaps cause a bit of controversy as well.
Gunn, who signed a deal with Shady Records last year alongside his brother Conway, took to Instagram to announce the title and cover art to his new album, which will be titled "Chris Benoit."
For those of you who are unfamiliar, Chris Benoit was a professional wrestler from Montreal, Quebec. During his time as a wrestler, he won 22 championships across four wrestling federations, and is considered to be one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. However, on July 22, 2007, Benoit murdered his wife and child, and committed suicide two days later.
While it might seem controversial to name your album after a man who murdered his own family, this actually makes perfect sense for Westside Gunn. He and Conway are huge wrestling fans, as they perform as a duo under the name Hall N' Nash, a reference to two other pro wrestlers: Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.
This also isn't the first time he's named a project after a contentious figure, as Gunn recently released his fifth installment in his Hitler Wears Hermes mixtape series, complete with a smiling Adolf Hitler doing his best Jesus impression.
Gunn had a lot to say about the new album, calling it a "masterpiece" and claiming that he had already spent thousands on the art for the cover, which he refers to as "the new Mona Lisa."
