Herbie Hancock's a legendary jazz musician who's contributions to music are endless. From working with Miles Davis and Joni Mitchell and countless others, his career spans nearly 50 years and his passion for music still burns. He's currently working on his next studio album which has yet to get a name but, it looks like he plans on recruiting some hip hop giants for assistance.
In a recent interview with the San Diego Tribune, Hancock revealed that he has some of hip hop's most revered artists working with him on his next album. West coast heavyweights, Kendrick Lamar and Snoop Dogg have been working with the 77 year old keyboardist for his upcoming album as well as Common. In addition to those names, he's also been working with Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Kamasi Washington and Terrace Martin for the project as well. Martin is actually producing Hancock's upcoming project.
"I’m learning a lot from the young people I’m working with," he said. "Because they built the new structures, social media and that whole arena, and that affects how you get things out in front of the public to let them know you’re working on something."
While he's a staple in jazz, his music has impacted hip hop for over 30 years. His song, "Rockit" from 1983 has been sampled in over 70 recordings within hip hop from artists like Erik B & Rakim to Janet Jackson to De La Soul.
It's unsure when the project will arrive but considering some of the names attached, it's bound to be dope.
