Rondo called the gun charge "unconstitutional".

Rajan Rondo has sought the dismissal of the gun charge he was hit with last month. Rondo's attorney has argued that the unlawful possession charge is "unconstitutional" and violates the Second Amendment. "The statute under which Rondo is charged fails to be consistent with the Nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation," the attorney argued. Rondo was arrested during a traffic stop in Indiana on January 28.

According to police testimony, Rondo admitted that a previous charge disbarred him from gun ownership. A loaded Sig Sauer P365 was found under the cupholder of Rondo's Tesla after he was pulled over for not having a back license plate. Rondo is also facing additional charges relating to marijuana possession. Police claim to have found THC gummies and a bong in Rondo's car. A judge has set a hearing date for late March.

Rajon Rondo is best known for his time with the Boston Celtics. He was the 21st overall pick in 2006 after a strong college career at Kentucky. Rondo would win a championship in his sophomore season with the Celtics. He would later win another title in 2020 as a rotational member of the Lakers. However, despite being drafted in 2006, Rondo would not retire until 2022 after one last ride with the Cavaliers.

However, his current gun charge is not the first legal trouble that Rondo has found himself in. In May 2022, Rondo was accused of threatening a woman with a gun at her home in Kentucky. A month later, the woman's protective order was dismissed after the "parties reached an agreement" out of court. It's unclear if this is the case that supposedly disbarred him from gun ownership.
