"Tusa" was one of the most explosive and instantly beloved reggaetón crossover tracks of the past few years, thanks in no small part to Karol G and Nicki Minaj's chemistry and performances. Recently, the Colombian star served as the cover star for Elle and had an interview with them where she spoke on the collab. "When I had this song, I just text on Instagram to Nicki Minaj,” she explained. “We never had met before, and it was so special for me that she loves the song, and she just jump on it- like, singing lyrics in Spanish. We were really grateful about her celebrating our Latina community. And I remember [during] the pandemic, this song was one that people used to sing in the balconies, so this one is really, really special. I know you love ‘Tusa.’ I love ‘Tusa,’ too."

Then, when a fan reposted the message on Twitter, the Trinidadian rap legend also showered Karol in praise while going into more detail. "But the thing is, Karol sent me another song @ first & I asked her to send smthng else,” Minaj wrote. “She didn’t want to b/c she said the reggaeton was what was popping at the time. But she still sent a new song. When I heard Tusa I fell in love. I think I was pregnant. I was dancing w/husband non stop in the backyard. We swore we were doing the merengue. The song made us feel so happy. That’s how I knew it was the one."

Nicki Minaj & Karol G Still Love Their Collab

However, this prompted fans to once again ask for a performance of the song from the two, which Nicki Minaj also spoke on. "To be fair, Karol asked me to perform it with her on 2 different award shows, if I recall correctly.," the 40-year-old expressed. "By that time I had gotten preggers tho & I was still keeping it a secret. I hated having to pass up on it but papa was growing in mama tummy. Lo siento por mis fans Latinos."

The Queen Further Speaks On "Tusa"

In fact, fans might remember that this is far from the first time that Nicki addressed rumors about the track. "The fact that y’all believed that dopey fkng lie?!? LMAO,” she said of a rumor that Cardi B suggested she passed on the song to spite Minaj. “That’s exactly why I’m checkin everything IMMEDIATELY from now on. Who?? Passed on what?? This isn’t even the 1st song Karol sent me. I asked her for ANOTHER song AFTER the 1st option & when she sent this I LOVED it [heart smiling emoji]."
