In case you missed it, DJ Carnage and Young Thug recently dropped "Homie," a Meek Mill assisted single from their upcoming Young Martha EP. While the duo previously made the announcement that Young Martha was on route, the arrival of "Homie" heralds an official release date for the project - Friday, September 22nd. We recently had the honor to sit down with DJ Carnage for a chat about the project, working with Young Thug, and more.
To kick things off, Carnage reflects on linking up with Thug in the studio for "Homie", describing Jeffery as a "workhorse. He's making like ten songs a day." Carnage also reveals a bit of insight on Thugger's process, which involves stepping into the booth, shutting volume down so nobody can hear anything, and coming out with a finished track in fifteen minutes or less. Despite Thug's rapid turnaround time, Carnage's process seems much more methodical. Still, the DJ likes to let things unfold organically, which ultimately led to a spontaneous feature from Meek Mill.
As for "Young Martha," Carnage prefaces by saying he wanted "to take like everything we love about Thug, and put steroids in that. It's just, you know, Martha Stewart, in her prime when she was making billions of dollars. She's a boss. Before she had to take that L, but when she was takin' them dubs...That was Young Martha. This whole thing is going to be so dope."
There's no doubt that Carnage is stoked about the upcoming project, which he confidently describes as his "best work yet." While he is a self-professed perfectionist, it appears that the era of Young Martha will swiftly be upon us, and from the sound of it, it'll be an early autumn highlight.
