This is for the Boricuas out there. Puerto Rican reggaeatón and pop artist Jay Wheeler just released a new single and music video, "SOS." However, this track leans into 80s-inspired production and an atmospheric sonic pallet. As such, if you're unfamiliar with reggaetón artists or Latin music in general, this might be a great intro point for you. Moreover, he longs for a romantic partner, sending distress signals for her to join him, and conveys a lot of heart in his performance. Also, this single follows an incredible 2022, where he dropped his biggest album to date and sold out multiple shows. Now, he's getting ready for his first world tour and new projects on the way.

“I’m very happy with the direction my career is taking, and I was dying to release new music and little by little show the people all the new things that are coming," the 28-year-old expressed. "This song is part of that, we don’t stop for even a second. S.O.S. is a track that people will enjoy because it’s part of my essence and what my fans expect. It’s romantic, but danceable. I’m maintaining my style, but also combining a retro sound with modern elements, and I love the video. I hope people enjoy it and sing along with it."

Quotable Lyrics
'Toy dispuesto a buscarte y bajarle al orgullo primero
Estoy aborrecío' de verte en el Insta, y no en el jangueo
Y estando solo aprendí que el amor no lo compra el dinero
Le tiré un DM a tu amiga (Amiga), pero pa' preguntarle por ti
(I'm down to pick you up and lower my pride first,
I'm tired of seeing you on Instagram and not going out,
Being alone taught me you can't buy love,
I DM'd your friend, but to ask her about you)

Gabriel Bras Nevares is a music and pop culture news writer for HotNewHipHop. He started in 2022 as a weekend writer and, since joining the team full-time, has developed a strong knowledge in hip-hop news and releases. Whether it’s regular coverage or occasional interviews and album reviews, he continues to search for the most relevant news for his audience and find the best new releases in the genre. What excites him the most is finding pop culture stories of interest, as well as a deeper passion for the art form of hip-hop and its contemporary output. Specifically, Gabriel enjoys the fringes of rap music: the experimental, boundary-pushing, and raw alternatives to the mainstream sound. As a proud native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, he also stays up-to-date with the archipelago’s local scene and its biggest musical exponents in reggaetón, salsa, indie, and beyond. Before working at HotNewHipHop, Gabriel produced multiple short documentaries, artist interviews, venue spotlights, and audio podcasts on a variety of genres and musical figures. Hardcore punk and Go-go music defined much of his coverage during his time at the George Washington University in D.C. His favorite hip-hop artists working today are Tyler, The Creator, Boldy James, JPEGMAFIA, and Earl Sweatshirt.
