The Lil Durk murder-for-hire case has been a whirlwind so far, and things might get even more divisive from here. However, it seems like the prosecution is ready to wrap their case up relatively quickly, according to journalist Michael Blackshire on Twitter.
He posted transcripts of the court's Friday (August 28) session. The judge in the trial reportedly asked federal attorneys for an estimated timeline of completion for their case, indicating the expected witnesses leading up to Examiner Jaung and asking who else will be a witness after "the final cooperator." The judge also said the Government can change its mind as long as they follow arrangements with defense lawyers.
Assistant United States Attorney Ian Yanniello reportedly said it's very likely prosecutors will rest their case on Tuesday or Wednesday, "depending on cross-examination [and] the cooperators." He also said Special Agent Jaung's testimony will precede another special agent testimony from Cody Burke. Also, Yanniello said they will have a "series of witnesses that will be shorter" that will relate to the Chicago rapper's alleged attempt to flee.
Per Blackshire, Kevon "OTF Vonnie" Grant and Keith "Flacka" Jones are both expected to testify this week in the Lil Durk trial. We will see if this timeline works out or if the process takes longer than what prosecutors are anticipating.
How Much Time Is Lil Durk Facing?
If convicted, Lil Durk faces life in prison. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, which accuse him of organizing a hit on Quando Rondo in 2022 in Los Angeles that took the life of Rondo's cousin, Lul Pab.
Lil Durk's trial has lit up hip-hop discourse, with many rappers chiming in on OTF Jam's testimony against Durk. Others like 6ix9ine are happy to see an enemy in this situation, while fans scrutinize details and comment on media proliferation.
Given how controversial Jam's testimony was this week, Vonnie and Flacka's statements could yield similar debates and divisions. But it's part of the larger cases prosecutors and the defense team are trying to make stick. So this trial still has a long way to go before jurors reach a verdict.
