Jay Z is the first rapper to ever be nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Sean Carter is one of a group of 24 nominees for this year's Hall of Fame class. The nominees, announced earlier this week, also include Madonna, Sylvester "Sly Stone" Stewart, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, and Max Martin. Nominees must have spent at least 20 years in the music industry.
Members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame will vote among the 24 nominees for five new inductees. Of those five, two are reserved for performers, like Jay Z, and the remaining three must go to non-performers. The voting period ends in mid-December, and the induction ceremony will be held next June.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame began in 1969, and as mentioned, a rapper had never been nominated until Jay Z. Congratulations to Hov for becoming the first nominee. Let's hope he's far from the last.
