50 Cent entered the Billboard 200 this week, with Animal Ambition moving more than the projected amount, although it's still not the numbers Fif used to do. It's independent numbers though, with a showing of 47,000 units. It will likely be quiet on the charts until we approach June 24th, when we've got multiple albums, including ones from Ab-Soul and Riff Raff, dropping. Until then, we'll have to just keep track on how Fif and friends are doing. One such friend is Mariah Carey, who debuted last week at #3 but she's quickly descended the ranks down to #18-- we may not be seeing Me. I Am Mariah... for much longer if she continues to drop at that pace. Overall, there wasn't too much excitement on the Billboard 200 this week, but take a look below to see where the sales are at.
1) 50 Cent— Animal Ambition: Fif’s departure from a major label seems to have impacted his sales, although we don’t think he’s worried about it. His independently-released solo effort Animal Ambition impacted at #4 on the Billboard 200, moving slightly under 50,000 units opening week—which is definitely independent numbers (or does it reflect the album’s quality? We’ll let you be the judge). He moved 47,000 units opening week, and we’ll have to see where he takes it from there.
2) Michael Jackson— Xscape: MJ descended this week from last week’s #7 to a #12 spot. The late King of Pop moved out another 25,358 copies of Xscape, bringing his total sales up to 284,272.
3) Iggy Azalea— The New Classic: Iggy continues to prove she’s got mainstar power with the success of her “Fancy” single. Her debut album The New Classic has been pretty successful too, although it dropped five spots this week, it’s still holding on at #15. She sold 17,599 units this week, with total sales of 163,202.
4) Mariah Carey— Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse: Mariah Carey made a pretty solid debut with her latest opus of work, at #3. However she’s quickly fallen down to #18, leaving us unsure how this LP will stack up in the long term. After two weeks on the charts, she sold 16,090 units. Her total sales are 74,670.
5) Pharrell Williams— G I R L: You know Pharrell’s gunna be here for a while. G I R L didn’t move at all over the course of this week, remaining at the #21 spot. His ode to all the ladies out there sold 13,871units this week, while his total sales climbed to 425,624.
6) John Legend—Love In The Future: We haven’t been closely documenting Love In The Future every week, but believe, it’s been remaining a top contender on the 200. This week the album falls down to #30 from #24, but that’s after an impressive 40-week run on the charts. The album sold 8,969 units this week, while his total sales are at a half milly, 529,934.
7) Eminem—The Marshall Mathers LP 2: We’re finally starting to see Em slip down the charts, after a very strong showing from MMLP2. It still hasn’t left the Billboard 200’s top 50, mind you. This week the album drops down 9 spots to #44. After 31 weeks of charting, Em sold 6,343 units. His total sales are at 2,128,181.
8) Justin Timberlake—The 20/20 Experience 2: JT also fell down this week, dropping from #50 to #57. After spending 36 weeks on the charts though, that’s pretty acceptable. The pop singer moved another 5,358 units of the album, with total sales slowly approaching platinum status, at 992,628.
9) Future— Honest: Future’s Honest isn’t keeping up with Iggy Azalea’s The New Classic, as we continue to see on Charts week after week. This week Honest experienced a steep drop from #43 to #63. The LP pushed under 5k, with 4,595 copies sold. Total sales are only at 110,506.
10) Beyonce— Beyonce: Bey Bey finds herself below Future, with a spot locked at #65. Her inventive visual LP dropped more than ten spots this week. After spending 26 weeks on the 200, she still managed to push 4,000 copies off shelves, with total sales of 1,990,000.
Below Beyonce, we find Jhene Aiko's Sail Out EP, which fell from #52 to #73. ScHoolboy Q's Oxymoron followed Jhene in her descent, dropping from #53 to #74. Q's West Coast counterpart, YG, follows closely behind with My Krazy Life at #75. Drake's NWTS sits at #77, while August Alsina's debut LP Testimony has fallen to #79 after 8 weeks of charting. Finally, The Roots' new album ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin may not appear on the 200 for much longer, having dropped to #121 this week.
