Griselda has a long list of affiliates, community friends, and supporters who put on for Buffalo and have become iconic fixtures of the label and brand, particularly via the efforts of Westside Gunn. One of these legends is Eastside Flip, who has sadly passed away following a reported hit-and-run. His Instagram page put up a post confirming the news.
"YES ITS TRUE FLIP WAS K!LLED LAST NITE IN A HIT & RUN ANYONE WITH ANY INFO HIT THE DM......" the post stated. "ALSO HE WILL GET A MURAL PAINTED ON BROADWAY SOON ANYONE WANTS TO DONATE HIT DM OR ANYONE WANTS TO SEND PAINTINGS OR ETC MESSAGE ME. SPAM DA [wheelchair emoji] FOR MA BOY!!!!"
Gunn also took to his Instagram to pay tribute to his late friend. He included various videos of Flip, his appearance on the 10 cover art, various pictures and paintings of him, and his appearance in the "Super Kick Party" music video from 10.
"REST UP HOMIE," the rapper captioned his post. "THE LEGEND EASTSIDE FLIP. WE MADE HISTORY!!!!!!! TOO RAW FOR TELEVISION. #GXFR #BUFFALOKIDS #LEGEND #RIPCLAIRE." Others like Denzel Curry paid their tributes in Gunn's comments section.
RIP Eastside Flip
Eastside Flip was a well-known and beloved community member and freestyler of Buffalo's East Side, specifically around Broadway-Fillmore. Westside Gunn had spoken out about Eastside Flip's struggles in the past, such as an overdose that nearly took his life. He also defended Flip against critics of his drug use and addiction, arguing addiction is a much more complicated situation than many folks believe.
Another fixture of Griselda's affiliates and close friends from Buffalo, Claire Gomez, also sadly passed away three years ago due to a vehicular accident. She's on the iconic cover of Griselda's WWCD.
Eastside Flip was also on Westside Gunn's 12 album and appeared in various other projects, videos, and other bits of Griselda history. Our prayers and condolences go out to everyone affected by this tragic loss.
Flip represents one of the most unique things about Griselda's presentation to the world and their focus. It's not about big-name collaborations or escaping what birthed you, but rather protecting and connecting with those who were there before all the fame, and who maintain stronger bonds with their neighbors and fellow humans.
