Jordan Peele's Us, the spiritual successor to the director's breakout hit Get Out, is expected to amass between $35-40 million during its opening week at the box office, invariably eclipsing the $33 million sales mark set in 2017. By the time it had finished its run in theaters, Get Out wound up with a startling $255.4 million take worldwide, and a haul of four Oscar nominations, including the nod for Best Picture, ultimately won by Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water.

Us makes its official debut at the SXSW this Friday, as part of a special commendation of film screenings, a week earlier than expected. Initially, Jordan Peele had intended for his new opus to premiere the week of March 15 to March 22. Last year's SXSW Film Festival acted as a container for another sensational film release: John Krasinski's post-apocalyptic thriller A Quiet Place, a film that was eventually listed among the American Film Institute's annual Top 10 list. Get Out, Peele's follow-up Us, and Krasinski's heavily-lauded film, all figure amongst the banner projects which have contributed the popular rise of the Horror Thriller genre.
One of the main reasons film experts are predicting a strong opening weekend for Us, besides all the interest generated by anything Peele-related, is that it won't be facing much if any competition at the box office, save for Captain Marvel, which will be in its 3rd weekend in theaters by that point. To top it all off, industry experts wholeheartedly believe the $35-40 million projections could rise at any moment, due to unforeseen circumstances. Keep it peeled for the jumpoff in a week's time.
