Serena Williams has been quick to diffuse the controversy stemming from her "catsuit" ban from the French Open organizers who deemed her outfit unrepresentative of their dress code. Serena Williams who has faced racial subjugation before (within the sport) decided against pushing her luck, with Nike taking up her mantle instead. The athletic apparel giant posted a swoosh-emblazoned postcard bearing the message: "You can take the superhero out of her costume, but you can never take away her superpowers."

It's being reported that stricter dress code has been instituted ahead of this year's tournament, with Serena merely posing as the first of many casualties. "I think that sometimes we’ve gone too far," said French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli of the precedent they'd set in the past. "It will no longer be accepted; one must respect the game and the place.”

Serena downplayed a potential rift in saying, "Everything's fine, guys, he's (Giudicelli) been so easy to talk to. My whole team is basically French, so, yeah, we have a wonderful relationship. I'm sure we would come to an understanding and everything will be okay. Yeah, so it wouldn't be a big deal." The Finals begin on Monday.
