Kevin Hart's reaction to the resurfacing of his old homophobic tweets has become a polarizing subject. Some of his fellow comedians have supported his decision to stand his ground and refuse to apologize for his past jokes. DL Hughley was part of this faction. The entertainer encouraged Hart while also insulting someone else in the process.
Hughley and Pose star, Indya More, enganged in a virtual exchange that quickly escalated into name-calling. The transgender actress asked the comedian to engage in further introspection.
"White people standing up for racism in comedy. @RealDLHughley. But you can't see that because gay jokes are so popular and normalized. you can't balance or evaluate the ethics of an issue you aren't impacted by or really care brother just stop... You bias!"
DL replied with the simple assertion that "jokes are jokes and no one is above them nothing more nothing less."
Indya then pointed out that he has the right to act as he wishes while still needing to be aware of how his decisions affect his role as a leader.
"Your jokes divide people and that's why you fail as a comedian. By all means don't apologize, you can be all the clown you want but you will never lead with bullshit."
This is where Hughley got messy and called Indya a "pussy."
"I make a living doing what love, put kids through college, paid for my homes, and travel the world, and still don’t give a shit what a pussy like u thinks." Then he doubles down on his use of the term, seemingly trying to shift its previously intended meaning:" Or consistently the top comedian on social media pussy!!! Lol."
He might have realized his misstep after firing off that first tweet.
