Like the movie itself, the #BlackPantherChallenge was a hit. The idea behind the challenge was to send kids to watch the superhero spectacular for free; funded by the participants of the challenge. Following suit, AMC Theatres is partnering with the Color of Change organization to support "Give A Child The Universe"; a similar initiative to send underprivileged kids to A Wrinkle in Time. The aforementioned films embody diversity, making them great films to show to the next generation and pass on those values.
The film is a fantasy-adventure movie based off of a 60's novel of the same name. It's directed by celebrated Black director Ava DuVernay who's work includes Selma and Jay Z's "Family Feud" music video. The movie also features a diverse cast with many powerful female leads including Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling.
The theatre chain intends to let children in to matinee screenings for accessible viewings. VP of special content at AMC, Nikkole Denson-Randolph made a statement, "The Wrinkle in Time story is one that children from all backgrounds and walks of life can identify with and draw inspiration from, and we are thrilled to celebrate this film in a meaningful way, through the vision of Ava DuVernay and in partnership with Color Of Change." We hope this can be a recurring trend for movies of interest.
