The CFDA awards celebrate the most innovative and talented fashion designers in the business, praising them for shaping the industry year after year. Last night's CFDA's introduced a lot of firsts. Kim Kardashian was in attendance to be presented with an Influencer Award and Supreme won for Menswear Designer of the Year. With the landscape of the fashion industry being shifted before our very eyes, Issa Rae decided to be a little bold in her decisions at the award show.

The Insecure star strutted down the red carpet in a stunning blue dress, rocking a belt with the words "Every N---a Is A Star" embroidered on. Well received by most, Rae continued making a statement during her monologue on stage, taking a dig at Kanye West's controversial comments on TMZ Live. It's hard to wipe from our memories that Ye said that 400 years of slavery "sounds like a choice," and Issa Rae is doing everything to keep people talking about how problematic the statement was. The actor joked, "I’m about as fashionable as Kanye is black — only when it’s convenient." Her punchline was the most impactful, speaking directly to the crowd, of which Kim Kardashian sat in, saying, "That joke was my choice, just like slavery." Though daring, the actor certainly got her point across to the audience.

The star has been teasing the upcoming season of Insecure over the last few days, sharing a new trailer for the series, which returns August 12 on HBO.
